When You Don't Know WHAT TO PRAY

WHEN YOU HAVE A Battle to Fight

There is no wisdom and no understanding

And no counsel against the LORD.

The horse is prepared for the day of battle,

But victory belongs to the LORD.

Proverbs 21:30-31

Father, haow greateful I am for Your protection, guidance, and strength. Thank you for being my Commander in Chief. Truly, there is no Defender, Warrior, or King like You-in heaven or on earth. Regardless of the enemies or challenges in my path, You easily overcome them. No matter the conflicts and trials I face, You are always triumphant. I am grateful for Your love and guidance.

Lord, I recognize You observe the full battle before me and know exactly what to do. I also realize I perceive the conflict only in part-I see only what is immediately apparent. But You fight in ways that I can't even imagine, with both spiritual and physical armaments and strategies that are so much greater than my understanding or abilities. You are all-powerful and all-knowing, and everything is in Your presence. No one in heaven or on earth can help me more than You can. So I know I stand tallest and strongest when I am in submission to You. And I am safest as I walk in the center of Your will. Therefore, Father, You are my Leader, and I will follow you. I obey You, Lord, knowing there can be only one General deciding the battle plan.

Father, help me not to become angry or defensive at those who attack, but to always be as forgiving and gracious as You are. Guard my lips, Lord. Help me always remember that so much of this battle is spiritual, and often people act as they do for reasons that are unknown even to themselves. My job is to obey You and represent You well. Thus, You call me to turn to You privately in prayer as conflicts arise-and not fight in public with words or actions. So that is what I will do, Father. Likewise, Lord, when I am hungry, angry, lonely, or tired, remind me of how vulnerable I am and that I need to take shelter in You. No matter what happens, I will not run away or give in to fear but will find my strength in You.

Thank You for always being available and leading me to success regardless of the battle. Thank You for working through Your Holy Spirit to guide me strategically around the Enemy's traps, to empower me for the struggle, to overcome every obstacle, to heal my battle wounds, qnd to direct me to victory. Thank You for revealing Yourself to me and to others through this. Help me to wait on Your perfect timing, trust You every step of the way, and be willing to obey all You ask. To You be all glory, honor, power, and praise in every triumph.

In Jesus's name I pray, Amen.

Stanley, Charles F. When You Don't Know WHAT TO PRAY. "When You Have a Battle to Fight." Zondervan, USA, 2021. pg 71-72,       This book includes 100 essential prayers for enduring life's storms. As I am using this as a devotional, God is revealing more areas that I am not even aware need confession and work. Thank you, Dr. Stanley.

Molded by the Master

Romans 9

20 But who are you, a human being, to talk back to God? “Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, ‘Why did you make me like this?’” 21 Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?  NIV BibleGateway

When the potter takes the lump of clay, he knows what he wants to do with it-whether he wants to create a beautiful vase, bowl, or pitcher. He already knows what it is going to become. He takes the lump of clay, places it on the pottery wheel, and begins to shape it. However, the only way the potter can form this piece of clay into something beautiful is by getting it to the center of the wheel...

One of the reasons God is not able to make us into the people He wants us to be is because we rebel against Him-we insist on doing things our way and get out of the center of His will. If we insist on questioning and contradicting Him, we'll never experience God's best.

Romans 9:20, 21 warns, "Who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, 'Why did you make me like this,' will it? or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for common use?"

God is daily molding us through our circumstances, and we need to trust Him-our faith in Him is absolutely crucial. To follow are six words to describe our Master Potter that will help us when our faith falters:

1 Power.

God has power in our lives because He is omnipotent... He allows our free will up to a certain point; however, the Master Potter has the ultimate power over the day.

2. Purpose.

God has a specific purpose in mind for each of us...

3. Plan.

...to conform us into the likeness of His Son Jesus Christ...

4. Patience.

God never hurries...  because becoming like Jesus Christ involves a lifetime process of learning the ways of God.

5. Perseverance.

...God never discards us... our Father has the power to overcome any obstacle in our lives...

6. Personal.

God forms each one of us individually...

Therefore, trust the Master Potter!  Trust the One who is powerful, who has a purpose and a plan for you, who is patient with you, who perseveres with you, and who loves you deeply and personally. As He molds you, learn from Him... You're a masterpiece waiting to happen, so submit to His touch.

God’s Will

If necessary, God will shake up heaven and earth to get our attention and show us His will.

2Chronicles 20:12

12 Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” NIV  www.biblegaeway.com

The following is part of Life Principle 10 by Dr. Charles Stanley. For the complete page with scripture references, please open your copy of the 30 Life Principles.

God always wants the best for us, and He is committed to showing us how to follow the specific plan He has designed for each of our lives. He wants us to listen for His voice, to hear what He wants us to do, and how He wants us to do it (Isaiah 30:19-21).

When we begin to wander from the course God has set for us, He will take all kinds of measures to capture our attention and protect us from harm. He has a wide variety of ways to help us to take notice, among them:

  • A restless spirit
  • A spoken word
  • An unusual blessing
  •  Unanswered prayer
  • Disappointment
  • Extraordinary circumstances
  • Defeat
  • Financial troubles
  • Tragedy, sickness, and affliction

The Father always knows exactly where you are in your journey of faith and precisely what it will take to get your attention. Stay alert; notice if any of these divine methods are occurring—or recurring—in your life. If they are, ask Him what He wants to tell you. Be willing to hear and obey what He says.

When faced with a decision, ask, “What does the Bible say?” and “Will my actions reflect God’s love to someone else?” These questions are for me and my “snapping turtle” personality. With all the turmoil, life moving faster and faster, as tragedy upon tragedy piles up, Dr. Tony Evans presented an encouraging message to the Christian National Broadcasters Convention in June 2021. Please pray and then listen to Dr. Evans. This video encourages my heart!!!

God presented the reading on Life Principle 10 and Dr. Evans’ powerful message at the National Religious Broadcaster’s Convention within days of each other. So, as Bill Gaither says, “Something Good is About to Happen!Dr. Evans concluded his message with the example of looking at coming attractions. As a believer in Jesus Christ, we are to allow the Holy Spirit to demonstrate God to all people. Will someone look at me and want to see the main event? Will they ask, “How do I purchase a ticket?” The ticket has already been purchased with the blood of Jesus Christ. All someone has to do is accept the ticket.

John 3:16

We don’t know when; are YOU ready?

Matthew 24:36
36 But of that day and hour, knoweth no man, no not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. KJV BibleGateway

Matthew 25:1, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. KJV BibleGateway

How do we prepare for something that we know WILL happen, yet do not know when?  Always be alert, focus, focus, focus! Just as in the time of Noah, God gave Noah specific instructions. Noah had never seen rain nor floods, so how could he prepare without God’s leading? Moses led the people of Israel from Egypt to the Promised Land. How could he? How could Moses accomplish this overwhelming task without the guidance of God? Both of these great leaders talked with God. Today, we talk with God by prayer, meditation and obedience.

As I read the LifePrinciples Daily Bible reading for February 7 pages 164-169, my God demonstrate how much He wants to be involved in my life. In Exodus 25:1-26:37, God specifically calls and equips us for His service.  In Exodus God provided plans to build a physical tabernacle for Him to dwell amount His people. Now, this tabernacle is our body. God in the form of the Holy Spirit dwells within every believer in Jesus Christ. Am I following His plan for His tabernacle? Psalm 19:7-14 starts with “The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul…” and ends with “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer.”  In Proverbs 6:32-35, I read about lacking sense, Jealousy enrages, and destroying self.  Matthew 24:1-28 compares the temple buildings with the kingdom of Christ. Read 24:12-13 “Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.” Again in Matthew 25:13, we read “Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour."

God wants an intimate relationship with YOU and ME! We were created for this purpose. Is your or my rebellion halting this intimacy? God wants to be intimate and LORD, involved in every aspect of your and my life. The world system is attempting to direct us to think globally; God directs us think individually. Is this my goal? EVERY person is important! EVERY person was created in the image of God to fulfill His individual purpose. What is this individual purpose? First accept Jesus Christ as personal LORD and SAVIOR. Allow Him to guide and direct your life moment by moment.
Are YOU ready, prepare now, read John 3:16. Read, study, meditate, and focus on Jesus Christ as YOUR personal LORD and Savior.

God’s Pattern for Success

Have you ever read through the Bible in a year? Would you like to read through the Bible in a year? Many options are available to read through the Bible in a year such as front to back, some chapters from the Old Testament and some chapters from the New Testament, read some in the morning and some in the evening or check out Life Principles Daily Bible:Biblical Principles For Each Day of the Year.

Each day includes readings from the Old Testament, Psalms, Proverbs and the New Testament. This process starts from the beginning of each area and does not skip around. The amount of reading in each area will vary; the length of time to cover the reading stays about the same. After talking with several people who read this daily for study or devotion, we came to the same conclusion; all of the readings are coordinated.

In order to explain this, I will use January 26 as an example. The Old Testament scripture is Exodus 1:1- 2:25 Pharaoh’s attempt to eliminate the Hebrew baby boys, God’s plan to save the Hebrews through Moses. Moses went through difficult times; many of us go through difficult and devastating experiences. Read 2:23 “…and they cried out; and their cry for help because of their bondage rose up to God.”

The Psalms scripture is 15:1-5, A Psalm of David asking who may abide in God’s tent, or may dwell on God’s holy hill. David contrasts walking with integrity, doing works of righteousness and speaking the truth in his heart with evil that speaks slander, does evil to neighbors, and is a reprobate.

 The Proverbs scripture is 4:25-27

25Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. 26Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. 27Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil. New International Version, Copyright 2011-2019 Biblica

The New Testament scripture is Matthew 17:1-27, God speaks to Peter, James and John in :5 …a voice out of a cloud said “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him.” In this same section of reading after a failure we read :20, “Because of the littleness of your faith….”

Life Example, page 112, “MOSES: God’s Pattern for Success” Exodus 1:22-2:25 “One of the greatest differences between the world’s message about success and God’s message is this: The world seeks a single formula to produce one set of results for all people, while God’s plan is far more creative, far more individualized, and far more personal….”

God has an individual plan for each one of his creations. The first part of the plan for humans is to acknowledge that He is God! Acknowledge that He is creator and controller of the universe. Acknowledge the depravity of humans, this includes me and you! God offers me and you the free gift of redemption through His Son, Jesus Christ. Just as God’s plan for success is individual, I must, as an individual, accept this free gift of spiritual life, not spiritual death. After accepting spiritual life, I can call God, “Abba” father.

Now on to the rest of the plan for success as explained in the example above:

Examples of attempting to make life work my way

God’s mercy and grace of repeating the same message again and again

Focus, focus, focus on Jesus Christ

When I feel like I have failed, it is because of my lack of or littleness of faith. Am I wanting God’s will “Thy will be done” or my will? Am I willing to wait for God’s time? Where is my focus? Am I looking straight ahead? God has an individual plan for my success, your success!!!

Praying God's Desires

Colossians 1:9-12

For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; 12 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.

New King James Version (NKJV)https://www.biblegateway.com

As Christians, we all long to make necessary changes in our life so we'll become more like Jesus. And we're also concerned about the spiritual growth of fellow believers - especially our loved ones. But trasformation doesn't come about by trying harder or putting Bible verses on sticky notes in hopes that family members will read them and shape up. The most powerful resource we have is prayer, and Paul has given us a pattern that is Christ-centered and specific.
Too often, believers pray without giving much thought to what God wants to do in a person's life. Instead, we focus on our own ideas regarding what He should do. How much more effective our prayers would be if we prayed according to God's will by using His Word as our source for requests.
The prayer from Colossians 1 focuses on the heavenly Father's desires for His children. When we go before the Lord and substitute our own name or the name of a friend or family member for "you" in versus 9 and 10, we are praying His specific will for that person. The Lord delights in responding to requests that someone be filled with knowledge of His will and walk in a manner pleasing to Him.
However, we must be careful not to think of this prayer as a magic charm. It doesn't work that way. These godly qualities take time to develop in a life. And if we are praying these things for ourselves, we must avail ourselves of the means God has provided for our sanctification or transformation - namely, His Word. If we want to know and understand God's will, we should ask Him and search the Bible.

The Call of God and Call for a Believer

The Call of God
Please read 1 Samuel 3:2-18
As a young child, Samuel lived in the temple with his mentor, Eli the priest. One night, after hearing his name called, the boy ray to ask Eli what he wanted. The priest, however, hadn't spoken, so he sent the child back to bed. This happened two more times before Eli realized that the Lord was the one calling the boy. Then he instructed Samuel to respond by asking the Lord what He wanted to say.
Almighty God still speaks to us today. For example, we start hearing Him when He calls us to salvation. The Holy Spirit makes us aware that something is missing in our life, and then He points us to Jesus Christ as the answer.
Without the Savior, we are lost and hopeless. Everyone is born with a sinful nature that's bent away from God. The Father, who is holy and perfect, requires holiness in His presence. Therefore, the penalty for sin is death—eternal separation from Him. But God loves us, so to correct that situation, Jesus came to earth, lived the perfect life, and died as a substitute for mankind. He took the penalty for our sin.
Salvation is the greatest gift. To receive it, all we have to do is trust in Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Then, He abides with us and continues to speak, gently guiding and encouraging us toward righteousness.
Have you sensed the heavenly Father speaking to you? If so, don't delay. Ask Him to forgive your sin; then accept Christ's substitutionary sacrifice on your behalf, and choose to follow Him. Share your decision with a pastor or trusted Christian friend so that you can have guidance on this beautiful new journey.
Stanley, Charles F. "The Call of God." In Touch: Daily Readings for Devoted Living. Atlanta: In Touch. May 2018. page 10.

The Call for a Believer

Ephesians 4:1+
Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called,. .
NASB, https://www.biblegateway.com/
. . . After leading us to salvation, God still has work to do in our life. If we listen carefully, we'll be able to hear our Father directing us in three ways.
First, THE LORD CALLS US TO SANCTIFICATION. This means being set apart by Him and for Him. Through His Spirit, He continually reminds us to use His power and resources so we can obey and live righteously.
Second, HE CALLS US TO SERVICE. The Lord has planned good works for us to accomplish (Eh. 2:10), and He gives us abilities, time, and resources for that purpose.
Third, HE CALLS US TO ACCOUNTABILITY. Romans 14:12 teaches that one day we all will give an account of how we used the resources God gave us to glorify Him. This report will be based on the truth we've heard and the opportunities that were available. So we should be sure to listen daily as our heavenly Father reminds us to utilize it all for His glory.
Has life become so hectic that God's voice is inaudible? Foster your own ability to listen by spending time in the Word and waiting for answers when you pray. And teach your children to tune in so they can hear God, too. What a shame it would be to tackle life without guidance from above.

When Facing Life's Mountains

Zechariah 4:1-9

The Gold Lampstand and the Two Olive Trees

Then the angel who talked with me returned and woke me up, like someone awakened from sleep. He asked me, “What do you see?”
I answered, “I see a solid gold lampstand with a bowl at the top and seven lamps on it, with seven channels to the lamps. Also there are two olive trees by it, one on the right of the bowl and the other on its left.”
I asked the angel who talked with me, “What are these, my lord?”
He answered, “Do you not know what these are?”
“No, my lord,” I replied.
So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.
“What are you, mighty mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become level ground. Then he will bring out the capstone to shouts of ‘God bless it! God bless it!’”
Then the word of the Lord came to me: “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands will also complete it. Then you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you.   NIV Bible Gateway.com

Wouldn't it be great if it were easy to do God's will? But sometimes it seems as if a mountain stands between us and what we've been called to do. When Zerubbabel felt this way, the Lord sent His prophet Zechariah with a message of encouragement.
Zerubbabel was given the task of rebuilding the temple. When King Solomon built the first temple, the kingdom was at peace, the treasuries were overflowing, and the workforce was huge. But the situation was quite different when the Jews returned after 70 years of Babylonian captivity. They were few in number, their enemies kept attacking them, Jerusalem was in ruins, and resources were very limited. Zechariah's message to Zerubbabel (4:1-9) contained two principles that strengthened him and will also help us when we face insurmountable obstacles.
  • We are to face our God-given tasks in the power of the Holy Spirit, not in our own strength and energy (v. 6). The Lord's work can never be done with human strength. His indwelling Spirit must empower us with the wisdom and energy to accomplish His will in our lives.
  • When God calls us to a task, He assumes the responsibility for removing any hindrances (vv. 7-9). What seems to us like Mount Kilimanjaro is a mere anthill for the Lord. When we're tempted to give up, it's time to look up, see the obstacle through His eyes, and trust Him.
Is the Lord asking you to do something that seems impossible? Dwelling on your own inadequacy leads to discouragement, but focusing on the Lord gives hope and the strength to persevere.

Edward McKendree Bounds (1835-1913) books on prayer

E.M. Bounds, a Civil War chaplain, knows the need and power of prayer!
"If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14

E. M. Bounds (1835-1913), a Civil War chaplain born in Missouri and died in Georgia, lived prayer before writing. He did not pray to write better, he prayed to live a life pleasing to our heavenly Father. He saw the need for daily "pray without ceasing" prayer.

Power Through Prayer written to encourage ministers, encourages everyone! On page 38 the reader will find "Prayer freshens the heart... keeps it in tune with God and in sympathy with the people..." Chapter headings include:
  • Our Sufficiency Is of God
  • Talking to God for Men
  • "Early Will I Seek Thee"
  • What God Would Have
A few reminders from the last chapter."It is absolutely necessary for the preacher to pray. It is an absolute necessity that the preacher be prayed for." p 99
Paul continually asked for prayer:
  • Romans 15:30
  • Ephesians 6:18-19
  • Colossians 4:3-4
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:25
  • 2 Corinthians 1:11
  • 2 Thessalonians 3:2
"He [Paul] impresses the Philippians that all his trials and opposition can be made subservient to the spread of the gospel by the efficiency of their prayers for him." p 104 The author concludes with "Let us pray ardently that God's promise to prayer may be more than realized." p 112

Read from E. M. Bounds: Books on Prayer (Public Domain). Thank you International House of Prayer and Mike Bickle!!!
Mike Bickle is the director of the International House of Prayer Missions Base of Kansas City, an evangelical missions organization based on 24/7 prayer with worship that is engaged in many evangelistic and inner city outreaches along with multiple justice initiatives, planting houses of prayer, and training missionaries.

"Called Unto Holiness" by Ruth Paxson review

Called Unto Holiness  By Ruth Paxson

Ruth Paxson spoke during the Keswick Convention in 1936. The addresses are printed as delivered at the three meetings for ladies only and at the closing fellowship gathering.

God’s call to holiness is unmistakable: every believer must be holy, even as He is holy. His instructions are clear and plain. Christ demands a separated life-one set apart for Him alone. The Lord’s last conversation with His disciples reveals God’s threefold standard for the Christian life. There must be oneness with Christ through positional sanctification, likeness to Christ through progressive sanctification, and fullness of Christ through personal sanctification.

“The twin word for holiness in Scripture is that precious word sanctification…
‘For this is the will of God, even your sanctification’ 1 Thess. 4:3
‘For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness’ 1 Thess. 4:7
Christ prayed for our sanctification in John 17:17, 19.
God has made this a gift of the Holy Spirit as our Sanctifier in 2 Thess. 2:13, before there was ever a world or anyone in it. Read Eph. 1:4.

"What is the scriptural meaning of the word? The primary meaning is, someone or something wholly set apart unto God… There is the secondary meaning: that which belongs to God must be like God. We must be holy for He is holy. God, the Holy Father; God, the Holy Son; and God, the Holy Spirit indwell the Christian. Is not that reason enough why we should be sanctified? Wholly set apart unto God? Made holy even as God Himself is holy?”

When writing about our oneness with Christ through positional sanctification, Miss Paxson chose as her text John 15:5. “That little word ‘in’ is the biggest little word in all the Bible. Usually our first concern in our Christian experience is what we are. But where we are is of paramount importance, because where we are determines what we are. ‘Ye in me’ precedes ‘I in you.’ The branch must be in the vine before it can bear fruit. Then, where are you today, my friend?”
“The Bible shows us just two positions in which any human being can be-one is the position of the sinner, the other is that of the saint. To become a Christian we have to pass out of one position into the other. These two positions are radically different… You are in one or the other for there is no other place to be. There is no middle ground between these two positions. You are either in the trinity of which Satan is the head, of which the world is the embodiment, and the flesh is the expression; or you are in the trinity of which Christ is the Head, of which the church is the manifestation, and the Holy Spirit is the power. Where are you this moment? It is the most important question any human person ever faces in all his life… One thing, and only one thing, determines where you are. It is your relation to the crucified, risen, ascended, exalted Saviour and Lord. The salvation and the sanctification of the believing sinner required two outpourings-the outpouring of the blood of the Saviour on Calvary and the outpouring of the Spirit of the Lord at Pentecost…
The blood of the Saviour is that which both saves and sanctifies. (Rev. 1:5 & Heb. 13:12) It is the blood alone that saves… There is but one thing that saves and that is the blood of Jesus outpoured on Calvary’s Cross.
It is the blood that sanctifies. It separated us from the kingdom of Satan. It crucified us unto the world and the world unto us. And it delivered us out of the sphere of the flesh.
The crucifixion of Jesus Christ put an end to the old creation and separated us completely from everything that pertains to it. It put aside everything but Christ. It placed Christ as Saviour at the very center of the Christian’s life, making him Christ-centered.
Following Calvary came Pentecost. The believers in that upper room were baptized with the Holy Spirit, and the church, the body of Christ, was formed… From that day on down through the centuries every person who has put faith in the blood of the Saviour has been baptized by the Holy Spirit into that one body. He has been made one with Christ and the fullness of Christ’s life has been made his potentially…

The Cross of Christ is the Great Divide. It makes a clean-cut cleavage between the sphere of darkness and death and the sphere of light and life. It is the boundary line between the kingdom of Satan and the kingdom of God. It calls subjects out of the one kingdom into the other and compels the sinner to make a choice.

Have you responded to that call? Have you crossed that Great Divide? Have you put faith in the blood of your Saviour? The answer to this question determines not only with which trinity you choose to company in time, but with which you will spend eternity… As a Christian are you wholly set apart unto Christ? Are you wholly in His possession, under His control and for His use? Will you frankly face this question today?
‘Neither give place to the devil’ (Eph. 4:27)
‘Be not conformed to this world’ (Rom. 12:2)
Is your life at any point or in any phase conformed to this world? If you find any such conformity will you acknowledge it and come right out in complete separation at any cost?
‘Put off the old man-Put on the new man’ (Eph 4:22, 24)
Is Christ the source of everything in your life as far as you know? Is everything from Him? Is He the center of your life? Is everything in Him? Is He the goal of your life? Is everything for Him? Christ is something to you, but is He everything?”

“The essential thing for holiness of life is to have a standard, and then to live without deviation by that standard. The Lord Jesus Christ has set that standard for us…
Where we are determines what we are… What are you now that you are in Christ?..
John 15… Oneness in Christ demands likeness to Christ; the branch that is in the vine must bear fruit. The branch that bears no fruit is worthless and is taken away. John 15:2 What a solemn thought that is for every one of us who is a branch.

The second thought is that no branch can bear fruit of itself. There is absolutely nothing in the branch itself that is productive of fruit, nothing that the branch is, nothing that the branch can do, can make it produce fruit; only the sap of the vine produces fruit. So the branch has nothing to do but to abide in the vine. John 15:4

  Third, fruit-bearing is progressive…. John 15:2, 8
There is nothing static in spiritual experience; every real Christian is a growing Christian. The purpose of fruit-bearing is to glorify Christ. The branch does not bear fruit to glorify itself, it bears fruit to glorify the vine…

Now what is fruit? It is Christ in His outward manifestation. John 15:4… The whole of Christian living is in these three words, ‘I in you.’ ‘I in you’-you nothing but a house of which the Lord Jesus Christ has taken possession, control and use.
Christ Himself is our Sanctification. 1 Cor. 1:30
Christ Himself is our life Col. 3:4

The Christian life is not merely a converted life, it is not merely a consecrated life, it is not a Christian life at all unless it is a Christ-life…

A Christian has only one value in this world-to reveal Jesus Christ, to manifest Jesus Christ in this dark, sinful world where men do not know Him and do not read the Bible to find Him there. A Christian is an absolutely worthless Christian unless he is revealing Jesus Christ. What enables him to reveal Christ? Anything in himself? Nothing but the One that lives within him, the Lord Jesus Christ-‘I in you.’ It is all that He asks of you and me, to let Him do the living and revealing…

Christ now has the right to possess us fully, to control us completely and to use us exclusively. In order that He may do so, He must become Lord. But sin, that stubborn old ruler, will contest His claim every step of the way. But did God make provision for the dethronement of that old master sin? See Rom. 6:6… You and I are called to make a choice…the choice between the continued sovereignty of that old master, Sin, and that of our new master, Christ. Rom. 6:12…Have you made this choice? Has it been a deliberate, final choice of Christ as the sole Sovereign over your life?..
Having chosen Christ as our Master, then He commands us to yield to Him as Lord. Rom. 6:13 ‘Yield yourselves,’ spirit, soul and body. Yield your whole human personality in total to Christ. Have you done it? Or have you parceled out a little bit and told Him what He could have, and what you intended to reserve for yourself?
‘Yield your members.’ In order that there may be no loophole, He goes on to say we are to yield every member of the body-the eyes, the ears, the feet, the hands, the lips, the tongue. Have you done it?.. Then we must yield everything that has any relationship whatsoever to our life, all our habits, all our practices, all our appetites, our pleasures, our companionship's, our home, our possessions, our children, our money…Here is our Lord’s command, have we obeyed it?.. Will you yield yourself, your members, all that you are and have, to the Lord now?

This work of sanctification can be carried on only through the Holy Spirit, the Sanctifier, that second great gift bestowed at the time of conversion. The moment you were brought into union with Christ, the wonderful Holy Spirit came to indwell you, and He is there for one purpose, to glorify Christ in you…
The Spirit of truth gives us a progressive revelation of Christ and of our riches in Him so, that once having seen Him we will want Him and Him only. Eph. 1:17-19…
The Spirit of power works for a progressive realization of Christ within us as our Life and our Lord. Eph. 3:16, 17, 19…
The Spirit of holiness works progressively to separate us from earthly things and from the love of the world and to strip us of everything of which Christ is not the source, the center and the goal. 2 Cor. 6:14, 17; James 4:4…
The Spirit of life works progressively to counteract the flesh by taking control and by crowning Christ Lord of all in life and work. Rom. 8:2; Gal. 5:17…
As the Spirit of glory He conforms us to the image of the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Cor. 3:18…
We become the Christian who bears the much fruit. Gal. 5:22, 23   A wonderful cluster of fruit that cannot be broken.
What memories do I leave behind me? Have we drawn attention to ourselves, or have we fixed the thought of others upon our glorified Lord?”

“The church, which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.” Eph. 1:22, 23

“Think of it! ‘The church, the fullness of Christ’! The Christian, the fullness of Christ! Is that your conception of what it is for you to be a Christian. You, living in your home; you, walking up and down the streets of your town or city, the fullness of Christ! That is what the Word says. ‘The fullness of him who filleth all in all.’ Here we are told how it is possible. He fills us with His own fullness. John 14:16, 17; Acts 2:4

Has such fullness been provided for me? Oneness in Christ made it ours. Col. 2:9, 10 ‘And ye are made full in him.’ Our position in Christ makes us potential partakers of the fullness of Christ. We ‘are made full’ it says, not we will be. The moment we become a part of the body of Christ, the fountain of fullness in Him is opened to us. The fullness has been provided for every Christian.

Is such fullness possible for me? Can the fullness provided be made personal? John 4:14 ‘Water’ in Scripture is the type of the Spirit as Christ Himself interprets it in John 7:38, 39. Christ is never called the water of life, but He gives this water to those who thirst and drink. Christ gives the Holy Spirit to the Christian. He is promising here the gift of the Holy Spirit.
‘In him a well’-is the Holy Spirit indwelling which Christ promised the disciples.
‘A well of water springing up’-leaping up in an exhaust-less, irrepressible way; springing up and overflowing. Is not this fullness?
   ‘Whosoever’-Did you get that word?..
‘Shall never thirst.’ Do you believe it?.. Perfect inward heart satisfaction. Do you have it?..
‘Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst’ but shall have perfect inward satisfaction and sufficiency. No matter what the circumstances or the environment or the spiritual and temporal need, Christ is enough and equal to it all. Christ only satisfies; Christ only suffices because the indwelling Holy Spirit fills the life and makes Christ a living reality within. Is He doing that for you?..
‘If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, from within him shall flow rivers of living water’ John 7:37, 38
‘Rivers of living water-not a rivulet, or stream, or even a river, but ‘rivers,’ the Amazon, the Mississippi, the Yangtze, the Thames, all put together into one.
‘Shall flow’-not a Dead Sea that received and retains the blessings of Keswick, but the river Jordan that refreshes and renews every life it touches…
‘From within him’-an inflow demands an outflow and an overflow. Christ is enough  and to spare…
‘He that believeth on me’-not only for some great preacher or Bible teacher, not even alone for some one employed in Christian service, but for him who believes on the Lord Jesus Christ. Do you believe?..

Is such fullness optional? May I choose whether I will be filled with the Holy Spirit or not? ‘Be ye filled with the Spirit’ Eph. 5:18. It is a command…

Why do I not have the fullness of the Spirit? There are two objective causes in the realm of truth. One is ignorance. In Christ we possess the fullness of the Godhead, and in the Spirit we have the One who makes this fullness our personal possession. But, because of ignorance of the Word of God, we lack this knowledge. Consequently we lack the experience of fullness. The other cause is unbelief. We know the truth but only intellectually and doctrinally. It has not become heart experience. Or we know it but we are afraid to act up our knowledge and to appropriate this blessing by faith. Heb. 3:19

   Then there are two subjective causes in the realm of experience. One is unconfused sin. The Holy spirit is holy and the place He indwells must be made and kept holy. This infilling demands cleansing from all known sin. It is impossible to be filled with the Holy spirit while knowingly, deliberately, retaining sin in the life… 2 Chron. 29:5, 16, 17… 1 Cor. 3:16, 17;
2 Cor 7:11; 1 John 1:9; Prov. 28:13 It is utterly foolish and futile for any one of us to pray for the fullness of the Holy Spirit if we hold even so much as a tiny spark of known resentment, or hurt, or unlove, or any un-Christ-like feeling toward another… Are you willing to have all uncleanness, both of the flesh and of the spirit, carried out of your life?
The cleansing is not the infilling but it rids us of what prevents the fullness and makes us ready for it.
The second subjective cause for the lack of fullness is an unyielded life, which means an uncrucified and uncontrolled self. Infilling demands the yielding of ourselves in total to the Lordship of Christ.  It permits of no reservations; it allows no locked doors. We must part with everything of which Christ is not the source and we must place everything under Christ’s control. There must be the utter dethronement of self and the voluntary enthronement of Christ… 2 Chron. 29:31…
After the filthiness was carried out the offerings were brought in… Rom. 12:1; 2 Cor. 5:15 Yielding to Christ means opening every part of the life to Christ, that He may fill it with Himself…
Yielding is not infilling, but it prepares for it. Emptying makes ready for infilling. Only the yielded life can be filled with the Holy Spirit…
How may the fullness be obtained?.. John 4:14, 7:37
‘Any man’-there are no favorites with God.
‘Thirst’-an intense desire for holiness for Christ’s sake that must be satisfied. It is an insatiable longing for God Himself. Ps. 42:1, 2…
‘Come’-‘Come unto Me’-the only One who can bestow this gift: the Giver of this living water in all its fullness.
‘Drink’-this is an act. Thirst is desire-I want water. To drink is an act-I take water. Just here is where many earnest, seeking souls fall short of this glorious experience. They thirst but they do not drink…
‘Be not drunk with wine
But be filled with the Spirit.’
How does one get drunk? By drinking. How does he stay drunk? By continuing to drink. How is one filled with the Holy Spirit? Our Lord says by drinking of that living water. How does one stay filled? By continuing to drink day by day. Is that not simple for each one of us..?

May we bow in silence to face a few questions in the presence of the Lord, and answer by a definite ‘Yes’ or ‘No.’

  •   Have you ever been filled with the Holy Spirit?
  •  Are you filled with the Spirit now?
  •   Will you be filled today?
  •   Do you purpose to live the Spirit-filled life from now on?
If you thirst and will drink just now, will you offer to God this simple prayer: ‘Lord, I thirst; Lord, I come and drink; Lord, I take the gift Thou offerest, the fullness of the Holy Spirit, and thank Thee for it.'"
